🇬🇧 scroll for English!💥 Filmová bestie, která cení zuby.
=============
💥 A cinematic beast baring its teeth. In his latest opus Minotaur, director Andrei Zvyagintsev offers a scathing critique of the mechanisms of power in contemporary Russia. Ales Stuchlý’s Mental Hygiene will screen this eagerly awaited drama, which, in addition to winning the Grand Prix at Cannes, has also garnered rave reviews from critics. Feraturing a discussion with Vítek Schmarc, an expert on the bitterness of life. To dispel the melancholy and bring this year’s Be2Can to a fitting close, there’ll also be a DJ after-party at the bar!
🎥 Andrey Zvyagintsev has appeared at Be2Can twice before, with similarly sombre films Leviathan (2014) and Loveless (2017). In his newest film, too, a family drama escalates into a dark social allegory. Minotaur is set against the backdrop of the Russian invasion of Ukraine — and asks what happens when the professional and personal life of a corporate boss begins to unravel, as his employees flee the company to avoid being conscripted into the war.
💥 After the screening, Aleš and Vítek will discuss how Zvyagintsev has evolved in his feature-length comeback after nine years, during which the director experienced expulsion from Russia and a Covid-induced coma. The closing uplifting DJ set, helmed by Vít Kentusák and Iva 8bitová, by contrast, will cause only minor health complications. Come along to the October edition of Mental Hygiene at Edison Filmhub!
Please note that the Q&A will be held IN CZECH ONLY. The film includes English subtitles.
