About this Event
What happens when our understanding of mental health moves forward — but the language and stigma surrounding it don’t?
Join Mind Circles and KCL NEUROlogue Neuroscience Society for an evening exploring the science, stigma and lived realities surrounding mental disorders.
Despite major advances in neuroscience, psychiatry and mental health care, misconceptions about mental disorders continue to shape how people are perceived, treated and supported. From the language we use to the assumptions we make, stigma can influence everything from help-seeking and clinical care to research, policy and public attitudes.
For the inaugural NEUROlogue event, we’re bringing together voices from across neuroscience, mental health, research and clinical practice to ask: how do we close the gap between what science tells us about mental disorders and the way society talks about them?
What to expect
Our speakers will each deliver a short, TEDx-style talk exploring mental health stigma through their own area of expertise, followed by a moderated panel discussion bringing their perspectives together.
We’ll explore how stigma develops, the role of language and misconceptions, what current research tells us about mental disorders, and what needs to change across healthcare, research and wider society.
There will also be an opportunity for audience questions and conversation.
Whether you’re studying neuroscience, psychology or psychiatry, working in mental health, interested in research, or simply curious about how we understand the mind, this evening is designed to make complex ideas accessible, thought-provoking and relevant to everyday life.
Expect big questions, expert perspectives and conversations that continue long after the event ends.
