John Walsh is a former editor of Architecture New Zealand and the author of a dozen books on New Zealand architects and architecture. He edited the publications accompanying New Zealand’s exhibition at the 2014 and 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale and recently has written guides to the architecture of Dunedin (2026), Wellington (2025), Christchurch (2023) and Auckland (2021), all published by Massey University Press. Walsh has contributed to numerous magazines and periodicals, and in 2023 curated an earlier exhibition of Miles Warren watercolours, staged by Objectspace at the Miles Warren Gallery in Christchurch.
Dennis Chippindale studied architecture in the early 80’s in Wellington and after registering travelled overseas for 8 years. While working in the UK, France and Germany he had numerous projects that required long commutes, with hours spent on trains or planes. This started a long love of drawing commuters in their habitat. Over the intervening years Chippindale has intermittently sketched as most architects do but a few years ago he decided to balance his world of computer-based design with a return to his love of drawing people. His journey has seen him develop from a hack sketcher to someone who can create a likeness in 10 minutes. Dennis runs a medium-sized architecture practice, Co-Studio focused on social architecture and practical ways of realising it.
