Martin (Atjazz) knows his way around technology and a studio, he should do, he cut his teeth creating music and sound design for the huge gaming company Core Design. He worked on numerous games for them, including Tomb Raider and from there on he had to allow his passion for making music run free and create music for a new audience. Now if you don't know Martin's phenomenal body of work don't let his artist name Atjazz mislead you. Yes there are jazz elements to his sound but there are many, many mo' layers to his incredible music and DJing. He takes inspiration from so many musical and cultural elements, deep house, Afro house and Afro beat, soul, jazz funk, broken beat, R&B, soulful house and so much mo'. He's been playing all over the world as a DJ for long enough and even more so recently promoting his masterpiece album 'Starbase 17' which features work and collabs with ranch full of musical talent including Max Beesley the musician turned actor, Omar, Osunlade, Pete Simpson, Josh Milan, Imaani, Charles Webster, keyboardist Nathan Haines, Fred Everything and so it goes on and on. It's an album that we could imagine Stevie Wonder have put together had he just been starting his musical journey and in concept album mode. There is not a dull moment on the album and as you listen to all three discs you are immersed into a musical journey, a beguiling journey of music to Starbase 17. Martin's deep understanding of black music has made him appreciated particularly in South Africa where he recently won a prestigious 'Best International Producer' gong, and where he is referred to affectionally as Themba, which translates as 'Hope'. We hope that you can make this this very special gig which also is Yogi's birthday. We thought that a special night for the old fella was called for and it don't get more special than Atjazz who just smashed his DJ set at Gilles Peterson's 'We Out There' last month over the perimeter fence and out of the festival!
