MENDING MATTERS: MONTHLY DROP-IN WORKSPACE
"A mended garment is a little piece of artwork that you wear around all day, on display like a living gallery wall, eliciting comments, starting conversations, an opening sentence to a good story." - Mending Life by Nina Montenegro
Bring one or two of your well loved pieces of clothing that may have a little bit of wear & tear, and learn how to better care for your cherished garments by developing practical mending skills.
This workshop will cover how to repair common issues such as broken buttons, tears, and holes. In this collaborative learning environment, participants can learn from one another, share experiences, and build confidence together.
Facilitated by Marium Durrani, fashion anthropologist and educator, the session will be intentionally warm and welcoming, to ensure the space supports all types of learners as they begin their mending journey with ease and encouragement. Participants will connect with others, share knowledge, and be an active part of this community sustainability initiative.
Small actions can have a large collective impact. Learning how to repair clothing helps extend the lifespan of garments, saving money and reducing the need to constantly replace items. It also encourages more mindful consumption, which can have a positive impact on the environment.
Beyond the practical benefits, mending can be empowering and confidence-building as being able to fix something yourself creates a sense of independence and accomplishment. Each participant will be equipped with practical, everyday skills they can immediately use in their own lives.
Ticket Cost: $15 or PWYC with a $10 or $5 contribution, tax included
Please arrive within 15 minutes of the ticket time to allow for a moment to settle in.
