London Cider and Perry Club Presents an evening tasting cider with THE NEWT IN SOMERSET

Thursday 24th September at The Against The Grain Cidery and Taproom in Enid Street

7.30pm start, finishing at around 9.15pm

Doors Open for cider from 6.00pm - the bar is open to enjoy Against The Grain's London craft ciders until we begin the tasting.

Join us for an evening with Sam Jeffery-Lyon from The Newt

ABOUT THE TASTING:

On Thursday September 24th we will be joined by a cider maker on a different scale from any of our previous cidermaker guests.

We will sample 5 of The Newt’s ciders, including their flagship Wyvern Wing and a sample of their Ice Cyder.

Made from 100% freshly pressed juice, the ciders are clean, sparkling and fruit-forward: wine yeasts are used, the ciders fermented cold, aged in stainless steel.

“We aim to put cyder on the dinner table, in wine glasses, paired with food.”

We can't guarantee that by the end of the tasting, you won't be booking your train to Castle Cary to go and see this amazing cidery for yourself!

ABOUT THE CIDERY

The Newt in Somerset is an estate blending cider-making, luxury hospitality, and horticultural excellence.

The estate is owned by South African owners Karen Roos and her husband Koos Bekker, who is a South African tech entrepreneur.

The Newt’s cider operation began in 2018, a year before the estate’s gardens and hotel opened. Designed with a focus on creativity and the visitor experience, the cidery features state-of-the-art equipment, including Voran presses, hypoxic apple storage, and multiple fermentation tanks."

The Newt In Somerset is probably the most mouth-wateringly exciting cidery that has ever been built in England, and anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves." Adam Wells - Cider Review

The scale is impressive: orchards stretch across 67 acres, home to over 70 varieties of apple trees .

Planted between 2015 and 2018, these trees are young, the largest, Homeground Orchard, features 22 apple varieties.

They operate a “no-spray” policy across these orchards. Fertilising the trees with organic materials and only harvesting the windfall apples.

We will be joined by Sam from the Newt to talk us through the ciders, the making and more about the estate, accompanied by pictures.
