Meet the Materials
Join the artists and special guest kid “Materials Ambassadors” in the gallery. The Materials Ambassadors will introduce the materials in the installation and suggest some ways to get to know them. Be ready to touch, listen, and engage with paper, water, pulp, sticks and sand. The artists’ invite visitors to become material companions within the installation by relating to materials in different ways. This approach is based on the artists' intention to create a space where material activity might form new relationships between people, between matter, and between matter and people.
Prompts for Future Visitors
Find the artists in the gallery to participate in Prompts for Future Visitors. Ask the artists to dig through their pockets for secret messages from past visitors or create your own message for a future visitor. This creative “passing of notes” in the gallery creates a continuum between gallery visitors and is based on the artists’ practice of creating prompts for interactions within the gallery.
Registration opens 2 weeks before the event.
About the Artists:
Leisure (Meredith Carruthers & Susannah Wesley) is collaborative art practice founded in 2004, based in Montreal. Their research-based work explores friendship, feminist cultural history, and children’s creativity as an antidote to climate anxiety. They have exhibited widely across Canada and are pursuing a collaborative PhD at Concordia University.
