About this Event
Reina Sakao, known as Madame Matcha from Montreal, will be in Toronto on October 24 to offer a special Japanese Matcha workshop and Chawan painting experience at Lychuu Baldwin, in collaboration with Saan Craftroom! All materials and tools are provided. No experience necessary!
1st hour: Matcha Workshop with Reina Sakao
2nd hour: Chawan/Tea Bowl Painting Workshop with Saan Craftroom (includes firing service. Finished bowls will be available for pickup approximately 2 weeks after the workshop.)
Reina is a fourth-generation member of a tea house family in Japan. In addition to importing a collection of Japanese teas for coffee shops, stores, restaurants, and individual clients across Canada, she is passionate in sharing her culture through Japanese tea ceremonies and tea workshops.
During this Matcha workshop, you will:
- Learn about Matcha, including what it is, how it is produced, and how to choose, prepare, and conserve it at home.
- Learn how to properly prepare your own matcha using traditional methods.
- Taste 4 types of Matcha from Uji, Kyoto, each with its own unique notes, paired with Japanese sweets (Wasanbon) traditionally served in tea ceremonies.
Come discover Matcha from different cultivars by tasting 4 types from Kyoto, paired with Wasanbon, which is plant-based and gluten-free! It is a great opportunity to explore both Matcha and Japanese culture together.
