About this Event
Marked! A Tat2Where? Runway Debut is a multidisciplinary cultural program exploring the connections between tattoo culture, identity, heritage, fashion, and visual art.
Created by Sonia Mendez Anderson, a 27-year professional tattoo artist and founder of Working Tattooed Beauties, the program introduces the Anacaona Series and its debut Threshold Collection, a body of wearable art designed to interact with and frame tattoo placement.
The program begins with an artist's talk and visual presentation, “Ink, Identity, and Inheritance,” examining tattoos as forms of personal storytelling, cultural expression, memory, and identity. The discussion transitions into a live runway presentation featuring adaptable garments designed specifically with tattooed bodies in mind, including a staged tattoo performance element Brittany Elliott.
The program also features a wearable art collaboration with Wire Cat Couture, created by Caterina Suttin Holdbrook and Alexandra Holdbrook of Holdbrook Fine Art, demonstrating how fashion and sculpture can intersect as forms of artistic expression.
Live music will be performed by Chrissy Bliss and Joe Talbert, adding another artistic dimension to the program. The event concludes with community engagement and curated vendors.
Together, the program brings tattooing, fashion, sculpture, music, and storytelling into one shared cultural experience—inviting audiences to consider the ways people use their bodies and creative expression to communicate who they are, where they come from, and the stories they carry.
