One Knight ~ One Squire ~ One Impossible DreamBook by Dale Wasserman | Music by Mitch Leigh | Lyrics by Joe Darion
Miguel de Cervantes is in prison, awaiting trial by the Spanish Inquisition, and his fellow prisoners want everything he owns. His only defense is a story, so he casts the inmates and starts to tell it.
His hero is an old man who has read so many tales of knighthood that he renames himself Don Quixote and rides out with his squire, Sancho Panza, to fix everything wrong with the world. He attacks a windmill because he’s sure it’s a giant. He mistakes a rundown inn for a castle. Everybody laughs at him, until they start to wonder if he’s the only one who has it right.
