Training and assessment course looking at visual strength grading of softwood
About this Event

Come and discover the hidden wood scientist in you! Why? If you’re using wood in any of your projects, then grading is what enables you to do so. Somebody somewhere in the supply chain has to assess the ‘quality’ and strength of the piece of timber that will be coming your way.

This course gives you practical insight into the hidden art of timber grading and how it can unlock a myriad of possibilities for making better use of lesser known species as well as reclaimed timber. Delivered by CATG, this visual strength grading of softwood training and assessment includes identifying species, taking moisture readings, determining knot plots, sizes and types, grade the timber successfully, and complete the additional requirements for storage and record keeping.

Ideally, delegates should have undergone training or work experience where they have experience of handling and identifying timber and are familiar with grading timber.

Architects, structural engineers and others involved in the design process are welcome to attend the first day of the course free-of-charge, dependent on spaces being available.
On completion assessment at the end of the course delegate will be able to visually grade softwood to BS 4978.

Facilities

Food and accommodation is not provided, although tea and coffee making facilities are available on site.
