About this Event
Your photographs deserve a life beyond the hard drive.
We spend hours taking pictures and far less time looking at them,
choosing, putting them in order and making something you can hold.
This afternoon is about that second part. In two hours you go from a
folder of images on your laptop to a printed, folded zine in your hand.

FROM SCREEN TO PAPER
You print in the room. A photograph behaves differently as a physical
object. Laid out on a table next to each other, your images start to
show their connections, their repetitions and a possible order. One
sheet of paper, folded, becomes your first small publication.
MAKING, MORE THAN OVERTHINKING
We start by looking. Before deciding what your photographs mean, you
trust your instincts and look for the connections between them.
Then you work with your hands. Put images next to each other, move them
around, make a decision, change your mind, and see what happens. There
are many good ways to edit and sequence, and you find yours by doing.
A small zine gives your work a physical form. It can show you something
the single photographs on a screen keep hidden. Sometimes that small
publication is enough. Sometimes it becomes the beginning of a larger
project, or a book.
WHAT TO BRING
· Your laptop
· A selection of your own photographs on it, around 20 to 40 images
· Curiosity. We bring the printer, the paper and every material you need
WHAT YOU TAKE HOME
· Your own printed and folded zine, and the first step towards a larger
body of work
· A physical selection of your work
· Zines from the other participants
· A way of editing and ordering you can use on every project after this

YOUR HOSTS
Dennis Sewberath Misser is a photographer and the maker of OnePageZine,
the tool that turns a single sheet of paper into a zine. He leads the
workshop and guides you through his process: shooting, selecting,
printing, editing, sequencing, making.
