About this Event
Part of Theatreship's guest nights - where contemporary artists take over the ship to highlight the stories they want to tell.
Here's some more info from them:
Come and celebrate the launch of a unique edition of Magma Poetry, one of the UK’s top poetry magazines. Each issue of Magma has a unique theme and team of editors. This issue is edited by Magma board member Cheryl Moskowitz and guest editors, poets and Antarctic specialists, Elizabeth Lewis Williams and Branwell Roberts, and features diverse and inspiring Antarctic-themed poetry from an international array of poets, and a stunning four-page foldout of photography made through a lens constructed from ice by South African environmental photographer Jean Brundrit.
There will be haunting live music from exciting new artist Stan Platt-Jones and a projected backdrop of rarely seen Antarctic imagery, plus an ambient soundtrack of found sounds from the region.
And where better to be launching our issue than in this historic 113-year-old, North Sea cargo ship converted to a floating arts centre moored by Canary Wharf, with a wonderfully atmospheric bar and top deck surrounded by the striking modern architecture of East London’s Docklands.
There will be specially discounted offers on copies of Magma Poetry and annual subscriptions, available only on the night. Entry to this event is free but registration is essential.
____________
The venue is open from 2pm. There is a lovely atmosphere in the bar and top deck, and we are open for everyone to have a drink and to enjoy the space. We advise arriving by 4:30pm at the latest to get your seats and settle in for this event.
Theatreship is committed to broadening access to the arts - we know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. If the regular ticket price is beyond what you feel able to afford for whatever reason, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected] and we will do everything we can to help, no questions asked.
We also offer arts supporter tickets, for those that can, to pay a higher price to support the venue, the artists who perform here and subsidised tickets for others.
Due to the historic nature of the ship, we’re sorry to say there is not currently step-free access into the theatre space. We have dedicated staff on hand to help with stairs, and an onsite wheelchair once you’re inside the venue. If you have any access needs, please do e-mail us at [email protected].
