Two beloved works in one energetic and mesmerising performanceSeason 2027 Packages are on sale now. Single tickets will go on sale on Monday, 9 November 2026 at 9am.
Umberto Clerici leads QSO in his anniversary cycle of Beethoven symphonies, starting at the beginning with Beethoven’s first foray into symphonic composition. Written in an elegantly high Classical style that showcases Beethoven’s skill as an orchestrator, the First Symphony already hints at the groundbreaking musical personality he would cultivate throughout his life.
By the time he turned his attention to the Eroica, he was a mature composer in full Romantic flow. The thunderous hammer blows of its opening foreshadow a revolutionary piece which throws out the rule book and bursts with energetic optimism.
The program opens with Unsuk Chin’s Subito con forza (Suddenly with power), named for a favourite performance direction of Beethoven’s. Written for the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, the great master’s sparkling volatility is echoed in this tribute.
