NOTE: This is an off-site event at RUBA Club, 21+!
Murderous Again - LYDIA LUNCH + TIM DAHL + MATT NELSON - combines the dynamic spoken word of Lydia Lunch with the psycho-ambient jazz noir of Tim Dahl & Matt Nelson to create an intimate evening of provocative musical poetry.
Lydia Lunch has been touring in a variety of mediums since 1977. In 1982 she began performing and curating spoken word shows in NYC at The Pyramid, The Knitting Factory, The Kitchen, The Performing Garage, La Mama, The Roxy Hotel and numerous other venues. She has appeared live with John Giorno, Hubert Selby Jr, Karen Finley, Jerry Stahl, Wanda Coleman, Henry Rollins, and Last Poet Umar Bin Hassan to name a few, often arranging shows and booking tours throughout America, Europe and Australia. She has presented workshops for writers throughout the USA and Europe, where she continues to tour with both music and spoken word.
Tim Dahl is a New York City based bassist and vocalist best known for his work with the noise-rock bands Lydia Lunch Retrovirus and Child Abuse. He also writes and performs for the jazz groups Pulverize the Sound, and GRID. Dahl has performed and/or recorded with many other notable musicians including Yusef Lateef, Lydia Lunch, Tyshawn Sorey, Rhys Chatham, Archie Shepp, Eugene Chadbourne, Tatsuya Yoshida, Mary Halvorson, Peter Evans, Charles Hayward, The Flying Luttenbachers, Jandek, Kool Keith, Von Lmo...Dahl is also the co-host for Lydia Lunch's podcast, The Lydian Spin. Tim is featured in the films Lydia Lunch-The War is Never Over and Albert Oehlen's Bad Painter.
Saxophonist Matt Nelson regularly performs in a far-reaching, motley assortment of musical projects. Described as “one of the more unpredictable virtuosos in NewYork’s underground” by Pitchfork and “genre-bending” by Tiny Mix Tapes, his output often lies in the gray corners beyond categorization. Upon graduation from the Oberlin Conservatory, Matt moved back to his native Bay Area and became an active member in the music community there, where he performed regularly with various experimental outfits including tUnE-yArDs with whom he recorded and toured extensively in support of their acclaimed album ‘ whokill”. Matt now resides in Brooklyn and continues to work with various experimental musicians.
***
Genre is death is an uncompromising noise duo made up of Ty V (Guitar, Vox) and Tayler Lee (Bass, Vox). Their sound is abrasive yet melodic, using heavy distortion, dissonant riffs, and reverberating vocals to create a wave of bodily hypnotic noise. The duo have been compared to the likes of Sonic Youth and Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, yet have managed to create a sound that is distinctly their own, avoiding mimicking the zeitgeist of decades before. Beyond the integrity of their music, Tayler's initmidating glare, or Ty's staggering gait, the duo share something truly inimitable - the overwhelming feeling that their music is a byproduct of the high esteem they hold of each other.
In 2024, Gid was crowned the 3rd hardest working band in NYC by Oh My Rockness. In March 2025, the duo played New Colossus Festival. Their debut LP "Talk" was released NOvember 1st, with a limited run of cassettes released by Insecurity Hits. The pair recently came off of a California tour with Gogol Bordello and followed it up with gigs with Lydia Lunch, Cherubs, and the Bush Tetras. Their upcoming record is being recorded with legendary sound engineer Martin Bisi and will be out in February on In the Red Records.
