Felix Ottaway O’ Mahony (b. 2004) is studying for an undergraduate degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire with Elena Riu as his teacher. He grew up in London and began playing the piano at the age of six. However, his first introduction to music making was prior to this, playing the tin whistle in Irish folk groups, in céilí and parades. This instilled a love of performing from an early age.
Felix has performed in a variety of venues across the United Kingdom including The Barbican, Lucy Sanderson Hall, Blackheath Halls, Waltham Abbey, and The Old Royal Naval College Chapel. He has performed in masterclasses with renowned artists including Dr Min Kwon, Pascal Rogé, Enrico Elisi, Andrew West, Lei Weng and Niklas Pokki. He was awarded First Prize in the European Piano Teachers Association’s London and South East Piano Competition, Second Prize in the Ealing Concerto Competition, and received a ‘Highly Commended’ award in the Liszt Society Intercollegiate Piano Competition, having been selected to represent Trinity Laban.
He enjoys performing a wide repertoire, with a love for both the established canon, as well as music that is underperformed and newly composed. A committed chamber musician, he enjoys working and performing in a variety of group settings. In this capacity he regularly receives coaching from musicians including Dr. Ji Liu, Andrew Sherwood, and members of the Carducci quartet.
Recent performances include: Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in the Mozart at Rush Hour concert series, directed by Martino Tirimo; regular solo recitals; a chamber music tour of Scotland featuring works for violin and piano; and the premiere of his own composition, Sketch for a Prepared Octave, alongside works by John Cage as part of Trinity Laban’s New Lights Festival
