Join our November Lunch and Learn at
Pacific Wild has spent over two decades on the front lines of some of British Columbia's toughest conservation fights, from the successful campaigns to ban grizzly bear trophy hunting and protect the Great Bear Rainforest, to current efforts to end the provincial wolf cull, protect ancient forests, and ban seafloor trawling. In this talk, Wildlife & Forests Campaigner Dr. Kristen Weiss will walk through Pacific Wild's current campaigns, including successes and sticking points, and explore what these fights reveal about how environmental change actually happens in B.C. Expect real talk about strategy, setbacks, and the messy reality of advocacy — followed by an open discussion on what effective change-making looks like today.

About the speaker:
Kristen hails originally from the scrub oak woodlands of Southern California, where she grew up hearing coyote families howl at night and caught glimpses of bobcats and mountain lions along hiking trails. From a young age, she became aware of the many anthropogenic threats to wildlife, including habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change. Kristen has a BS in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and a PhD in wildlife management from James Cook University in Queensland, Australia. She has studied insect invasions in French Polynesia, manatee population dynamics in Florida, sea turtle and dugong conservation in Northern Australia. As a science communicator, she has helped raise awareness about climate change impacts, clean energy, sustainable fisheries, wild carnivore conservation, and more. Kristen is passionate about harnessing the power of visual and written storytelling to inspire awe in nature, and to promote conservation and sustainability.
