🪷 What is Loy Krathong?
Loy Krathong is one of Thailand's most beautiful and beloved annual festivals, often known as the Festival of Lights. Celebrated around the full moon of the 12th month of the traditional Thai lunar calendar, it is a time for gratitude, reflection and new beginnings.
The word Loy means “to float”, while Krathong refers to a small, decorated floating vessel traditionally made using natural materials such as banana leaves, flowers and other decorative elements, often with a candle.
Traditionally, people release their krathongs onto water as a symbolic gesture of gratitude, letting go of negativity and welcoming good fortune for the future. The festival is also associated with paying respect to water, which sustains life.
It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Thai heritage, appreciate the beauty of cultural traditions and experience a festival that brings communities together.
