Join local arts organisation Transported and artist Emily Cartwright for a relaxed and inspiring sketch walk around Boston town centre.
As you explore the streets, you'll be encouraged to slow down, look up and discover the fascinating details hidden in plain sight. From historic carvings and sculptures to decorative architectural features, Boston is full of beautiful and intriguing treasures that often go unnoticed.
The walk forms part of preparations for Illuminate 2026, Boston's annual heritage-inspired lantern parade. This year's theme, Looking Up, celebrates the sculptures, carvings, decorative features and architectural details that adorn buildings across the town, helping to tell the story of Boston's unique character and heritage.
Along the way, Emily will guide participants through simple sketching activities designed to help capture these overlooked details and inspire ideas for this year's Illuminate celebrations. Whether you're a confident artist, a complete beginner or simply curious about seeing Boston from a fresh perspective, this free guided walk offers a creative and enjoyable way to connect with the town's heritage.
Choose One of Two Routes:
Please book onto one session only.
Morning Session: 10am to 12pm
A longer walking route exploring architectural details around the town centre, including features of the historic Freemasons' building and surrounding streets. The route covers approximately two miles with regular stops for sketching.
Afternoon Session: 1pm to 3pm
A shorter, more accessible route focused on the area around St Botolph's Church (the Stump) and the Sessions House, with more opportunities to stop, sketch and observe nearby features.

We want everyone to feel welcome and able to take part. Please let us know about any access requirements when booking.
Regular seating opportunities will be available throughout both walks. Participants are welcome to bring a folding chair or deckchair if they wish. A member of the Transported team will have an event trolley and will assist with carrying chairs where possible.
Wet Weather Plan:
If poor weather makes walking and sketching outdoors impractical, the session will move indoors to St Botolph's Church, where participants can continue drawing and exploring architectural details from within the building.

Suitable for ages 12+. No previous drawing experience is needed. Ideal for adults, but young people aged 12 and over are welcome when accompanied by a responsible adult.
