About this Event
Join artist, Sarah Davis on a tour of the elaborately carved Two Temple Place, looking closely at the wood and carving that make up its opulent interior, followed by a demonstration of carving.
Two Temple Place is a dazzling neo-Gothic gem on Victoria Embankment, commissioned by and built for William Waldorf Astor in the 1890s. Astor emigrated to England from America in 1891 as the richest man in the world, and he spared no expense on Two Temple Place. The building provides a vivid narrative of his life and the endeavour of the remarkable craftspeople who shaped it.
Sarah Davis is a multimedia artist using hands on sculptural techniques to explore the cyclical nature of recovery and renewal. She uses traditional approaches with a deep historical resonance, such as wood carving and bronze casting. Davis has been working with Two Temple Place since 2022 and in Summer 2023, Two Temple Place commission her to create series of handling objects to allow visitors to the building to feel the texture of wood.
