Little Gems, One of a Kind
Small, original artworks with a personal touch. Discover colorful digital collages brought to life with hand embroidery, beads, and thread.
For the second weekend of the Austin Studio Tour, I'm celebrating the small and wonderfully individual with a collection of my little embroidered artworks.
Each piece begins with one of my original photographs, transformed into a vibrant digital collage. Then I return to the printed image with needle and thread, adding embroidered lines, beads, and other tiny details that respond to the color and movement beneath them.
No two are alike. Each is a one-of-a-kind artwork, finished by hand.
These little gems range from 4 × 4 to 9 × 12 inches, with prices from $50 to $325. They're just the right size to tuck into a bookshelf, brighten a small wall, nestle into a favorite corner, or add something unexpected to an existing art collection.
I'll also have works in progress on display and will be demonstrating my embroidery process throughout the weekend. You'll be able to see how I develop the stitched elements, watch the work unfold, and ask questions about the materials and techniques I use.
I love the idea that original art doesn't have to be large to make a lasting impression. Sometimes the smallest pieces invite us to look the closest.
