Most people come to New York City and never leave Manhattan. This tour takes you somewhere most tourists — and most New Yorkers — have never been.
Flatbush, Brooklyn is home to Little Caribbean: the largest and most diverse Caribbean diaspora community in the world outside the Caribbean itself. Over 2 million New Yorkers are of Caribbean origin, and this neighborhood is where their story lives. We're going to walk through it — the food, the music, the history, and the community that built something extraordinary here.
This is not a sightseeing tour. It's a 2-hour conversation about Caribbean American history told through the neighborhood itself — from the early 1900s migration waves through the community you'll see around you today.
**What's Included**
✔ 4 tasting stops — Caribbean baked goods, fresh produce, beverages, and dessert\
✔ Small group — capped at 8 guests for an intimate, discussion-based experience\
✔ A neighborhood most visitors never see\
✔ Stories you won't find in any guidebook
**The Route**
📍 Allan's Bakery — Meet the group over currant rolls at a Flatbush institution that's been on this block since 1961. Get introduced to the neighborhood and each other.
📍 Labay Market — Taste and learn about Caribbean food culture while exploring how this neighborhood took shape in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
📍 Antilles Café & African Record Centre — Grab a drink and walk through Caribbean American music history — from calypso and reggae to how a Jamaican immigrant invented hip-hop in the Bronx.
📍 Immaculee Haitian Bakery — A Haitian institution. We discuss how Little Caribbean was shaped by post-World War II migration and what brought so many Caribbean families to this specific neighborhood.
📍 Nostrand Avenue Small Businesses — Walk the corridor that defines the neighborhood today. We talk about what Little Caribbean is becoming, who's been here for decades, and what's at stake.
📍 Mr. P's Ice Cream — End the tour at a neighborhood fixture that every kid in Flatbush knows. Stick around, socialize, or head out on your own.
