Create your own set of beautiful hand-printed Christmas cards in this relaxed and creative linocut workshop.
You’ll learn how to design, carve and print using multiple lino blocks, building up layers of colour, shape and texture to create a unique festive design. You’ll be guided through the whole process, from developing your initial idea and carving your blocks through to inking and printing your finished cards.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a set of your own hand-printed Christmas cards, along with your carved lino blocks so you can continue printing more at home.
No previous printmaking experience is needed – just bring some ideas and a willingness to get stuck in. All materials and equipment will be provided.
About Zoe Buffery
I am an artist and printmaker living and working in rural North Devon. I create multi-layered linocuts, which are largely inspired by my love of the outdoors and relationship with the natural world. My work often looks at the connection between memory and place, exploring feelings of nostalgia and a sense of belonging. I have a deep interest in the environment and the role we play in shaping our surroundings.
I use traditional printmaking techniques and tools, and I constantly strive for the highest possible level of craftsmanship. I predominantly use the reduction printing process to build up layers of colour, alongside an intricate mark-making style that is informed by my preliminary pen and pencil studies. I tend to be drawn towards a subtle and limited colour palette that evokes a sense of reflection, composure and remembrance.
Prior to setting up as a printmaker, I studied Architecture and worked for an engineering firm. This training provided me with strong design and creative principles, which now inform my current work and printmaking process. Relief printing, and in particular the reduction printing process, appeals to both the logical and the creative sides of my personality.

Studio Kind is situated at the far end of and within Barnstaple Pannier Market. During out of hours, the market can be accessed by a small wooden door from Butchers Row.
Nearest Car parks are the Cattle Market car park or Barnstaple Central. There is disabled parking on Boutport Street.
The bus station is a 5-minute walk away and the train station a 15-minute walk or bus journey of 10 minutes.
Our venue is wheelchair friendly and accessible to all. There are accessible toilets right next door.
