Lincoln in HanoverPresident Lincoln’s train made an unscheduled stop at Hanover 163 years ago. What he said here Nov. 18, 1863 is maybe best forgotten, compared with the immortal speech he gave the next day at Gettysburg.
Local historian and journalist Marc Charisse will present a short program on Lincoln’s remarks — and why they were such a flop — on Monday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
The free program will begin at Guthrie Memorial Library, with a special look at the library's collection of historical Hanover art, and conclude at the monument marking Lincoln’s remarks nearby on Railroad Street. Charisse will also perform what he says he thinks is Lincoln’s favorite magic trick.
