About this Event
This presentation is part of AWARE's ongoing campaign, Protect Priority Habitats, Preserve Our Future, and offers community members a unique opportunity to learn about local grizzly bear behaviour, habitat requirements, and the challenges these iconic predators face in an increasingly changing landscape.
Michael has spent more than three decades studying bears in the Sea to Sky corridor, collecting data on black bears in Whistler and Squamish for 33 years and researching grizzly bears in the Squamish and Elaho watersheds for the past 12 years. His extensive fieldwork and long-term monitoring provide a rare, science-based perspective on the lives of these remarkable animals.
Using a network of continuously operating remote cameras, Michael tracks bear survival, reproduction, and habitat use, generating valuable insights into bear populations and ecosystem health. During this presentation, he will share findings from his ongoing research, including observations from the region's continued drought conditions in 2026, and discuss what they reveal about the future of grizzly bears and their habitats.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of the region's most experienced bear researchers and gain a deeper understanding of the wildlife that helps define our region.
