About this Event
Free for PAC*SJ members and those curious to learn more. RSVPs encouraged.
Join the Preservation Action Council of San José (PAC*SJ) on Thursday, October 15 from 4:30pm to 7:00pm for our next Legacy Business Happy Hour at 5 Spot Chivas Grill. One of the oldest drive-in restaurants in California, the 5 Spot has been the spot on South First Street since its first incarnation as a Keystone coffee shop opened in 1931. Later modernized as a "car-hop" in 1947, the 5 Spot added its iconic neon signage in the early 1950s and was designated an official San Jose City Landmark in 2002. In 2007, it was purchased by current owners David and Rosa Silva, who added regional Mexican specialties to the menu and transformed the dining room into a homage to the Guadalajara Chivas, the popular Mexican football club.
Our no-host happy hour will feature drink and food specials, complimentary appetizers, and a special SALUD! to the iconic neon 5-Spot sign, recently restored through a grant from PAC*SJ’s Sign Restoration Fund.
Legacy Business Happy Hours are a chance for PAC*SJ members and prospective members to connect with fellow preservationists, history enthusiasts, and community members in unique, historic settings, all while supporting a legacy business. Share ideas, build new relationships, and learn how PAC*SJ is working to protect and sustain the places that make San Jose special.
