🧠 Lecture: "Why Is Tuberculosis So Hard to Vaccinate Against?"
🎤 Speaker: Professor Bryan Bryson
Join us for a fascinating evening as Professor Bryan Bryson pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to design a successful vaccine. Using tuberculosis—one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases—as a case study, he will explore why some vaccines work, why others fail, and what makes TB such a uniquely difficult scientific challenge.
Professor Bryson will walk us through how scientists choose vaccine targets, the tradeoffs they weigh, and the surprising twists that can derail even the most promising ideas. Along the way, he’ll share stories from the lab that reveal how discovery, failure, and iteration all shape the vaccines we rely on today.
Bryan Bryson is a biomedical scientist who studies how our immune system recognizes and controls Mycobacterium tuberculosis and how that knowledge can lead to better vaccines and therapies. He is passionate about making complex science accessible and sharing the human side of biomedical research.
