🧠 Lecture: "The Psychology of Trauma & Resilience"
🎤 Speaker: Professor George A. Bonanno
What really happens when we face a potentially traumatic event—and why do many of us emerge not broken, but resilient? Join Professor George A. Bonanno, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma and resilience, for a compelling look at how people adapt to loss and adversity.
Drawing on decades of research, Professor Bonanno will unpack three core axioms of resilience. He’ll explore why the most common response to potential trauma is not chronic suffering, but a stable trajectory of healthy functioning. You’ll learn why there is no simple checklist of “resilience traits,” and how what helps in one situation can hinder in another. Finally, he’ll explain how flexible self-regulation—accurately reading each challenge, using the right tool from our coping “toolbox,” and adjusting as we go—is key to finding our way through hardship.
Professor Bonanno is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at Columbia University’s Teachers College, an internationally recognized pioneer in resilience science, and author of The End of Trauma and The Other Side of Sadness.
