🧠 Lecture: "The Evolution of Hearing: From Fish to Humans"
🎤 Speaker: PhD Student, Aoi Hunsaker
Join us for a fascinating evening as PhD student Aoi Hunsaker explores how human hearing traces its origins back to fishes. Our ears are the product of hundreds of millions of years of evolution, built on the original blueprint of fish ears.
Aoi will explain how humans hear, what our ears share in common with those of fishes, and how scientists use fish to uncover the origins of hearing itself. You’ll also learn how human-made noise in oceans, lakes, and rivers can affect aquatic life and what that means for the future of underwater ecosystems.
A Seattle native and PhD student at the University of Washington, Aoi studies the neuroscience of auditory systems in fishes, uncovering how their brains process sound.
Come for an eye-opening look at the science and evolution of hearing—from ancient seas to modern humans.
