🧠 Lecture: "Ghosts in the Cosmos: How Matter Became Mind"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Jay White
For nearly 14 billion years, the universe expanded in silence. Stars ignited, galaxies collided, planets formed, and chemistry unfolded without a single witness. Then, on a small world circling an ordinary star, matter woke up. Life emerged, awareness followed, and suddenly the cosmos contained creatures who could ask: Who am I? Why is there something rather than nothing? And where’s the best live music tonight?
In this thought-provoking and seasonally spooky evening, astrophysicist Dr. Jay White will explore awareness, identity, and perception—revealing that the greatest mystery of Halloween isn’t whether ghosts exist, but how the universe itself learned to wonder.
Dr. White is an astrophysicist, educator, Founding Director of the Talcott Mountain Research Institute, and Visiting Scholar in Astronomy at Wesleyan University. As Resident Lecturer for Manhattan’s Lectures on Tap series, he blends science, history, humor, and storytelling to show that we didn’t just arrive in this universe—we emerged from it.
