In 2025 and again in 2026, a Baylor University-led team of archaeologists uncovered previously undisturbed tombs at the Etruscan necropolis of San Giuliano, providing invaluable glimpses into Etruscan material culture and customs. In this joint lecture, two scholars intimately involved in the project will share fresh perspectives on the region’s rich archaeological landscape from its origins in Etruscan antiquity.Davide Zori will present “From Etruscan City to Medieval Castle: The San Giuliano Archaeological Research Project’s First 10 Years,” tracing a decade of fieldwork that reveals the site’s transformation across more than two millennia. Jamie Aprile will follow with “The Tomb of the Painted Bird Vases: Excavation of an Intact Chamber Tomb in the Necropolis of San Giuliano,” offering a close look at a remarkable burial discovery and what it tells us about the lives and afterlives of the Etruscans.
