Practical hand on masterclass in using an overlocker/serger for sewing
About this Event

We’re thrilled to introduce our brand-new Overlocker Sewing Class – a lively, hands-on workshop designed to help you build confidence and skill with your overlocker. Whether you’ve never taken yours out of the box or you’ve given it a go and felt a little overwhelmed, this class is for you.

Over the course of 4.5 hours, you’ll be guided by a friendly and experienced tutor who will walk you through everything you need to know to start using your overlocker with ease. We’ll begin with the basics – threading your machine, understanding the tensions, and exploring what makes overlockers so unique. From there, we’ll dive into stitch variations and learn how to adjust settings for different fabric types and finishes.

Expect to get hands-on with stretch and jersey fabrics as we show you how to create beautiful garments using your overlocker. You’ll learn a variety of seam finishes and hemming options including ripple edge, rolled hem, and blind hem – all while building up your own handy reference samples.

To round off the day, you’ll put your new skills into practice by making either a jersey top or a pair of comfy pj shorts – the choice is entirely yours. Please bring along 1.5 metres of medium-weight jersey fabric for your project.

This class is perfect for confident beginners. We have some overlockers in the studio, but you’re warmly encouraged to bring your own machine if you have one – after all, the aim is to help you feel confident using your equipment. We’ll also cover some simple but essential maintenance tips to help keep your overlocker in tip-top condition at home. This will include cleaning the lint, oiling, changing needles and knife.

As with all our workshops, complimentary tea, coffee and cake will be available throughout – because sewing is always better with a cuppa.

Duration: 4.5 hours

Skill level: Confident Beginner

What to bring: 1.5m medium-weight jersey fabric, your overlocker (optional)
