About this Event
A Beginner Sewing Workshop for Adults & Teens 17+
Have a sewing machine but don't really know how to use it? Or maybe you've always wanted to learn to sew but didn't know where to start?
Join Leslie Ann Studios for a relaxed, hands-on Saturday designed for absolute beginners!
We'll spend the morning learning the basics of a sewing machine, practicing essential skills, and getting comfortable with the machine. After a lunch break, we'll put those skills to work as we create a simple beginner-friendly project you can take home.
No previous sewing experience is necessary!
✂️ What You'll Learn
During this workshop, we'll cover:
- How to set up a sewing machine
- The basic parts of your machine
- How to thread your machine
- How to wind and insert a bobbin
- How to select a stitch
- How to adjust stitch length
- How to sew a straight seam
- How to backstitch and secure your seams
- Understanding seam allowances
- How to sew corners
- Basic fabric and sewing tips
- How to feel more comfortable using your machine
Then we'll use those skills to complete a simple beginner sewing project.
With class sizes limited to just 4 students, you'll receive plenty of individual guidance in a relaxed, welcoming environment. (Exact Address of home studio is given upon registration and is near T.L. Hanna High School.)

🧵 What About Sewing Machines?
I have two sewing machines available for class use.
Because this is a small class of up to 4 students, students may share a machine and rotate during portions of the class.
If you would prefer to have your own machine to use throughout the class, you are welcome to bring your own beginner-friendly machine.
Don't have a machine yet?
No problem!
If you'd like to purchase the same machine we'll be using in class, I recommend the Brother XR3774. It's a beginner-friendly mechanical machine with 37 built-in stitches, an automatic needle threader, drop-in bobbin, and wide table.

Please don't feel like you need to purchase a machine before registering. You can take the class first and decide afterward if sewing is something you'd like to pursue!
