Enjoy a high-energy staged reading performance of Lawn and Order, a new satiric comedy that lampoons America's lawn obsession and comically examines how suburban landscape practices and its environmental costs. This 80-minute one-act theatrical comedy will be followed by a panel discussion with leaders of the Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter of the NC Wildlife Federation and the playwright, Elaine Alexander. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation.
Synopsis of Play: n this comical look at America's lawn obsession and its environmental cost, middle-class, middle-aged homeowner Frank is devoted to his front lawn that he mows, blows and sprays to pesticide perfection. But when the house next door threatens to be sold to an eco-minded young woman who plans to replace the grass with native pollinator flowers and an organic vegetable garden, Frank declares war and decides to do whatever it takes to preserve the sanctity of his suburban lawn. This innovative comedy not only humorously satirizes harmful, eco-unfriendly suburban landscape practices but also depicts climate supportive solutions.
Elaine Alexander is an award-winning Charlotte playwright who has an MFA in Creative Writing from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Elaine's most recent full-length play, Sex, Lies, And A Sycamore Tree won "Best Local Theatre Production" by readers of QCNerve in their annual Best In The Nest Competition and was produced by Fort Mill Community Playhouse in September. Another recent full-length play, Thanksgiving: 2016 won Elaine a Best Director Award and five Metrolina Theatre nominations including Best Production. Elaine's one act plays have been theatre festival winners in three continents and throughout the US, most notably in Los Angeles and New York City.
