Voices from the front linesLuminos Ensemble marks Remembrance Day with Last Letter Home: A Concert of Remembrance on Saturday, November 7 at 7:30pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Charlottetown. The program features choral music setting the poems and letters of people who served on the front lines of conflict, from the First World War to the present day.
Taking John McCrae’s In Flanders Fields as its starting point, the concert gives voice to soldiers’ experiences across generations. Highlights include a setting of the final letter of a U.S. Private killed in action in Iraq, a meditation by the last soldier to leave the battlefield at Gallipoli, and poems reflecting the experiences of Canadian soldiers at Passchendaele.
The evening culminates in Herbert Howells’ exquisite and virtuosic Requiem for unaccompanied double choir, written in memory of those who died in the First World War.
