About this Event

Presented by Inge-Marie Eigsti, PhD

Inge-Marie Eigsti, PhD, is a professor of clinical psychology in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Connecticut and director of research for the Institute for Brain and Cognitive Sciences.

About the Event

The Autism Long-Term Outcomes Study (ALTOS) examined adolescents and young adults who were diagnosed with autism early in development according to gold-standard expert clinical evaluation and currently have no symptoms. Prior work described the unique brain networks involved in language processing in this population in comparison with individuals with a current autism diagnosis and those without a history of autism. This talk will discuss results of recent behavioral and imaging studies of language outcomes in autistic teens and adults and their association with other cognitive and communication abilities.

Learning Objectives
  • Compare language strengths and challenges (including non-social aspects of language ability) in autistic teens and young adults.
  • Evaluate long-term outcomes in autistic young adults, with a focus on mental health and well-being.
  • Compare the neural bases of language processing differences in autistic young adults as related to individuals with no history of autism and those who have lost the diagnosis.
