(EN) Monteverdi’s Selva morale e spirituale is a musical testament in which he collated his church music towards the end of his life. The collection reflects his years at San Marco in Venice and showcases the transition from Renaissance to Baroque in all its richness. From serene a cappella moments to festive works with instrumental accompaniment, a musical world unfolds where emotion, word, and theatrical imagination converge, borne by a music language filled with contrasts and movement. La Fonte Musica, directed by Michele Pasotti, performs this repertoire with historical refinement and strikingly vivid intensity. Their interpretations are clear, expressive, and meticulously nuanced. Thus, Monteverdi does not sound like music from the past, but like music that is very much of the present: intense, layered, and surprisingly close.
