About this Event
[EN]
Can we hear a painting, or see a piece of music? In this lecture-concert, pianist Maria Nemtsova starts with Yayoi Kusama’s world of dots, mirrors, repetitions and rooms that seem to go on forever. She brings it into conversation with music by Karen Tanaka, Meredith Monk, Kate Moore and others. Art historian Ekaterina Rikota opens up another way of looking at the images and the links between sound and sight.
Nemtsova does not set out to give Kusama a soundtrack. She spends time with the visual work, its rhythms and sense of space, then chooses music that resonates with it. The concert leaves room for us to make our own connections, too. The Amsterdam-based pianist often moves between contemporary music, theatre and visual art; Rikota works in art history and museum education. Together, they invite us to look again, listen again, and notice what changes. The spoken parts are in Russian with English surtitles.
