Go behind the creative process of Killing the Negative: A Conversation in Art & Verse on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.Admission is free for all ages!
Poets Quraysh Ali Lansana and Ken Hada will lead an in-depth presentation exploring the ideas, inspiration and creative process behind the exhibition. A slideshow presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Inspired by rejected Great Depression-era photographs from the Farm Security Administration, Killing the Negative pairs Joel Daniel Phillips’ drawings with ekphrastic poetry to examine representation, truth and power.
Before or after the program, explore the Irving Archives and Museum’s permanent exhibit, give kids a chance to discover the process of invention at the Smithsonian Spark!Lab, and take home a free limited-edition “history quote” tote while supplies last.
