About this Event
Spend an afternoon at Karen Community Farm supporting families and schools on the other side of the world.
On Sunday, October 25, join the Karen community of the Triangle for food, art, and stories — all in support of students, teachers, and villagers displaced by decades of civil war in eastern Burma. This past December, KCF community member Htoo Saw traveled back to his homeland and visited six schools, five of them holding classes in the jungle because airstrikes made their original buildings unsafe. He also visited IDP and refugee camps along the Thai-Myanmar border, where families are short on food, medicine, and school supplies—needs that only grow more urgent in the rainy season.
What to expect when you arrive:
- Karen food for sale — pumpkin curry, Karen noodles, Thai tea, and more, made by KCF community volunteers
- A photo and story display documenting conditions in eastern Burma, put together by our youth volunteers
- A community program in the early afternoon featuring youth speakers, including one who traveled to the camps in December
- A live art auction of three original pieces depicting Karen IDP life and community leaders
- A chance to give directly — donations support three specific areas of need: food, medical supplies, and school supplies for children and teachers
Bring your family, bring your friends, and come hungry. This is a come-and-go event — stop by for the food, stay for the program, or do both. Youth volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions and share more about the situation in Burma.
We are aiming to raise $10,000 in total. All proceeds support relief efforts for students, teachers, and villagers displaced by conflict in eastern Burma. Karen Community Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and funds remain under KCF's full discretion, directed to verified needs on the ground.
