KAIRA BA
When Cissokho immigrated from Senegal to North Carolina, he initiated a collaboration that he hoped might bridge the Atlantic, connecting worlds thousands of miles apart but bound by a shared history. Since 2011, Kaira Ba has done just that, producing three full-length albums, touring extensively in the United States, and voyaging twice as a band to Senegal to collaborate with Diali’s extended family and community. In 2014, the band was nominated for the prestigious continent-wide All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA) in the category “Best African Group” for their album The Great Peace. In 2018 the band released Routes, its most ambitious album to date. Recorded in both North Carolina and Senegal, the album was met with critical acclaim. Songlines hailed the album as “up there with the groundbreaking recordings of Thione Seck, Baaba Maal and Youssou N’Dour.”
Kaira Ba is available for performances as well as classroom presentations and workshops. Facilitated by Diali Cissokho and Will Ridenour, along with members of Kaira Ba, these experiences offer a unique window into West African music and cross-cultural collaboration through the arts. The band will work with presenters to customize residency experiences, but a sampling of workshop and presentation topics includes:
• Mande Music and the Kora: Griot History and Culture Through Song and Story
• Percussion Masterclass in West African Djembe and Dundun Music
• Sufi Islam in West Africa Through Story and Song

LIPBONE REDDING
“Traveling the world, making friends and music.”
Lipbone is a one-man orchestra and award-winning collaborator, who makes stories into songs, and songs into birds. In his early years, he left his home of North Carolina to live in New York City, where he busked nightly in the Uptown 6 train subway station in SoHo.
He has produced evening length events for the Museum Of Sound Recording in Brooklyn, written music for the Bill. T. Jones Dance company in Manhattan, and performed at Lincoln Center, The Vatican, The Chicago Museum of Art and countless stages, festivals, backyards, quinceañeras, birthday parties, and house concerts throughout his storied career.
His works have been licensed to esteemed prime-time masterpieces such as “The Jersey Shore,” and “Parking Wars.” He has been featured on PBS, NPR, with mentions in the New York Times, Village Voice, Wall Street Journal and there’s a whole box of newspaper clippings in storage somewhere, but it’s way in the back of the closet, and who has time for all that.
