You're invited! Bring friends and neighbors to tour this beautiful church building designed by renowned Bay Area architect Julia Morgan, featuring an exclusive display of recently rediscovered original 1926 Julia Morgan blueprints.
There will be short videos about the building, slideshows, music, and volunteers to show you around. Printed and digital media will be on display, and the Cafe will be open for light refreshments. See you soon!
* A little about the building:
A Swedish American community commissioned Julia Morgan in August 1926 to build a space where they could practice faith without persecution. Morgan designed well-known, extravagant structures, including the Hearst Castle. This particular building, however, has been a modest space to nurture community in this corner of Oakland, E 15th and 3rd Ave, for over 100 years. This building's soul is immigrant resilience made permanent in old heavy timber construction found within, a Swedish congregation's hope, shaped by a woman that architecture tried to overlook, still holding people together a century later. Stewardship of this space comes with many responsibilities. Upcoming projects needing support include:
- Roof repair above one of the classrooms, before rains (Super El Niño 2026!)
- Window repairs
- Repairs across the street at the Gym
