John knew hundreds of people and hundreds of people who frequented city hall knew John. He passed on March 3, 2026 after spending the last year of his life in skilled nursing care.
John’s celebration includes the eulogy delivered by Former Mayor Brian Treece, prepared remarks by Verna Laboy and Scott Swafford, and three music selections by the combination of Sutu Forte, Fred Young, Dirk Burhans and Mary Velle. There will be a time for sharing resolutions and remembrances, including those emailed to us ([email protected]) by citizen friends who are unable to attend this service.
We do have an in lieu of flowers option should you wish to make a donation in John’s memory to a local not for profit, The Spay Neuter Project, their clinic website is https://www.spayneuterprojectmo.org

Proceeds will be used to provide routine pet health care, including vaccinations, to pets and families who could not otherwise afford it. To access this financial support, a family can make a healthcare appointment with the Spay and Neuter Project MO and specify the John G. Clark fund.
Burial of John’s ashes, in Columbia Cemetery, will be smaller, yet open to friends, the week after the celebration of life event. We will have more information regarding burial at the Celebration of Life.
