titled:
Between Plateau and Sea:
New Research at Pyla-Kokkinokremos around 1200 BCE
Summary:
Recent excavations at Pyla-Kokkinokremos in southeastern Cyprus shed new light on the organization of a short-lived settlement around 1200 BCE. Focusing on Sectors 5 and 7, this paper examines architecture, rock-cut installations, storage, craft production, and international connections. Densely built complexes in Sector 5 contrast with the more open, terraced structures of Sector 7, which may have linked the plateau to a possible harbor. Substantial storage capacity, metalworking, textile production, and dispersed valuables reveal a carefully organized and economically active community. The evidence raises questions about social organization, the inhabitants’ origins, and the circumstances of abandonment during the wider transformations at the end of the Late Bronze Age.

All Monday lectures are free and open to the public, but registration is required for access to the Zoom lecture.
