$15 ticketsJevaughn Bogard & Abstract Sounds bring a high-energy blend of jazz fusion, funk, soul and gospel, led by Cleveland saxophonist and composer Jevaughn Bogard. Rather than traditional straight-ahead jazz, Abstract Sounds builds its music around deep harmonies, hard-hitting horn lines and driving funk and drum-and-bass grooves — with a goal of putting the dance element back into jazz. Their influences include artists such as Stevie Wonder, Snarky Puppy and Funky Knuckles.
A Cleveland native, Bogard began on classical piano before taking up saxophone and studying at the Cleveland School of the Arts, the Music Settlement and Oberlin College. He later toured nationally and has performed or recorded alongside an extensive list of artists including Chick Corea, Benny Golson, Sean Jones, Marcus Belgrave, Cory Henry and Big Daddy Kane. Bogard formed Abstract Sounds in 2021, and the group has since performed at events including the Tri-C JazzFest and Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival and taken its music to cities including New York, Philadelphia and Chicago.
Their recent music continues to expand that sound, including the 2025 single “Atychiphobia (The Fear of Failure)” featuring guitarist Dan Wilson, which added vocals to the group's jazz-funk foundation.
