An evening of atmospheric jazz with singer Katrina Likhtman, Geoff Varrall on trumpet, Caroline Cooper on piano, Rog Thomson on bass and Max Holm-Radford on drums. ‘Sentimental Journey’ was Doris Day’s first Number 1 hit in 1944, composed by Len Brown and Ben Homer with lyrics by Bud Green and performed with Les Brown and his Band of Renown. R Better known for their recreation of Chet Baker studio and live recordings, the band are in relaxed mood in this celebration of the great American song book mixed with Latin American classics and the occasional moody blues. Regulars on the London Jazz scene now for over 15 years, they have appeared at George IV in Chiswick, the Bull’s Head at Barnes, the Laurens Jazz Club in South West France, the Spice of Life in Soho and Café Yukari in Kew and they are delighted to be back at George IV after their last sell-out concert.
Over a long career, trumpeter Geoff Varrell has mastered musical styles from brass band through to jazz ballads and bop. He set up the Retro Chet Collective in 2017 as a vehicle for recreating Chet Baker’s Last Concert in Tokyo at various venues such as the Boston Room over at George IV, the Jazz Room at the Bulls Head in Barnes and the Exchange Theatre in Twickenham. The project evolved to capture the best of Chet Baker’s playing career which ended tragically early when he died on May 13 1988. Caroline Cooper joined the band with a mission to bring back to life some of the great piano players who supported Chet Baker over four decades such as Russ Freeman and Harold Danko.
Rog Thomson has an encyclopaedic knowledge of all types of music including jazz `as well as having had a parallel career in international classical music artist management. Katrina Likhtman, our super-special multi lingual vocalist, has worked with the band for several years now and we were delighted to be her backing band for her superlative Sarah Vaughan concert at the Wallingford Jazz and Blues Festival earlier this year. Drummer Max Holm-Radford is relatively new to the London Jazz scene but has played drums and bass for several years in the Roger Perrin Collective and is a regular member of the house band at the weekly jazz jam at the Bootleggers in Richmond.
A word about our seating arrangements:
We sell tickets as tables for two or four people and banquettes for six.
We also sell tickets for individual seats in rows beside the stage, not at a table. You can also buy individual tickets to add to tables, so you can to buy a table for two and make it up to three by buying an extra ticket, or buy a table for four and make it up to five by buying an extra ticket.
Chiswick Calendar Club Card holders are offered a £2 discount on tickets.
You can order meals, bar snacks and drinks in the Boston Room, before and during the performance. Doors open 7.00 pm. Performance starts 7.30 pm
