About this Event
Gamelan Kusuma Laras is directed by I.M. Harjito, one of the finest and most revered Javanese musicians living today. Renowned drummer Darsono Hadiraharjo and singer Heni Savitri will bring their own unique magic to an unforgettable evening of traditional and not-so-traditional Javanese gamelan.
Javanese gamelan music is often inseparable from the arts of poetry, dance, and various forms of theater, such as dance-drama, and shadow-puppet play (wayang kulit), which are integral parts of special occasions or social events.
Klenèngan (Javanese gamelan jam sessions) are purely musical performances that are often woven into celebrations, such as weddings, memorials, or other major life events during which guests enjoy music, snacks, and conviviality lasting long into the night.
This performance will be divided into two sets.
- Set One: 4 PM - 6 PM
- Set Two: 7 PM - 10 PM
Important notes:
- $25 suggested donation; covers both sets. Please buy tickets in advance as seating is limited.
- Different pieces will be performed in each set. Come and go as you please.
- Light refreshments will be available throughout the performances.
