Join Floating Art for an introduction to Japanese Painting where you'll be introduced to Japanese Painting materials and paint the topics and seasons of Japan.

We’ll teach you some basics of the Japanese Painting sknown as Nihonga (日本画) and teach you how to paint using traditional materials that includes bamboo brushes, sumi ink, Gansai Tambi 顔彩耽美 (Traditional Japanese colours), gold leaves on rice paper. We'll paint specially selected seasonal topics and often finish off our painting with some curated calligraphy or with a symbolic stamp.

We’ll bring a large selection of seasonal references from a wide range of Japanese Artists, both classic and contemporary. We often focus on specially selected topics
Our Workshops are not about copying what’s in front of you but designing and making something of your own. You’ll learn all you need to know about how to do that in the session.
Many of our students haven’t painted in a long time. This painting class is suitable for beginners as well as those with a little more artistic experience, so don't worry if it's your first time. Your teacher will be on hand to provide guidance and answer any questions. We just ask that you treat Ula with respect by listening to her demonstration as well as her advice.

Afterwards, you'll get the chance to stand back and admire your beautiful Japanese painting. You'll head home with your piece and a new skill that's perfect to practice whenever you're looking to clear your head.
