About this Event
Practice the Art of Japanese Calligraphy (Shodō)
Kanji characters were introduced to Japan from China. There are three styles of writing : Kaisho (regular script), Gyousho(semi-cursive script) and Sosho(cursive script). Kana characters originated in Japan from the Sosho style. Discover the beauty of Japanese calligraphy, where the distinctive and aesthetic writing of kanji and kana has evolved into a celebrated art form.
In this workshop, we will learn basic fundamentals and create our own Japanese calligraphy pieces. Some examples of the characters that you might practice are: 無心-mushinn (No mind), 無我-muga (Selflessness), 月のひかり-tsuki no hikari (Moon light) etc.
「漢字」は中国から伝わりました。それらには楷書、行書、草書の3つの書体があります。日本でその草書体から仮名が生まれました。そして、漢字、仮名共にその特徴的で美的な字形は学びから芸術になっていきました。今回のワークショップも 漢字を基礎から学び 自分の作品を作ります。 無心-mushin (No mind) , 無我- muga (Selflessness), 月のひかり- tsuki no hikari (Moon light) etc.
