Come join us on Wednesday 28th October, 7-8.30pm at St Mary's Church Annexe (in The Garden Room) on Upper Street in the heart of Islington for an illustrated talk with Errol Reuben Fernandes Head of Horticulture at Horniman Museum on 'The Winter Garden', the BIG seed giveaway and our spring bulb bonanza (low cost, quality spring bulbs, advice on 'lasagne planting') . There will also be wine and nibbles. All are welcome!
The BIG Seed Giveaway:
We will kick off our Autumn 2026 event with The BIG seed giveaway . Feel free to bring seeds to donate to other attendees. There will be a good selection of seeds (annuals, perennials, edibles etc) for a variety of situations (sun, shade and everything in between).

We will then settle in for the illustrated talk ...
How do you prepare a garden for the wintertime? Do gardens need to be 'tidied'? What can we do to support wildlife over the winter.

With a background in fine art, gallery education and psychotherapy as well as being botanically trained, Errol’s approach to landscape management, horticulture and design is creative, thoughtful and sensitive. Errol is particularly interested in ecological and sustainable horticulture and develops planting schemes that sit comfortably alongside nature, with a low impact on the environment both in terms of implementation and maintenance. He also strives to push the boundaries of contemporary horticulture and design practice. Prior to joining the Horniman in April 2021, Errol was Senior Gardener for the 112-acre Kenwood House estate in Hampstead, north London, in the care of English Heritage.
Spring Bulb Bonanza
Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase a bag of low-cost, quality spring bulbs ready for planting now. All bulbs will be suitable for a tree pit, container or window box. We can also give you guidance on ‘lasagne planting of bulbs’.

The number 4, 19, 30 and 43 buses stop outside the church, and it's a short walk from Angel or Highbury & Islington tubes.
There will be wine and nibbles.
